My Decision's Been Shelved
My Decision’s Been Shelved is a modular shelving system exploring co-authorship, imperfection and emotional attachment.
Each ceramic section began with decisions made by a different participant. Using a structured worksheet, they chose the form, surface, openings and overall character of their piece before adding a sketch and note. I then translated those decisions into clay by hand, keeping irregularities, visible instead of correcting them.
The ceramic forms are stacked between reclaimed flamed beech shelves around a concealed structural core, with vegetable-tanned leather washers protecting the contact points. No adhesives are used, allowing the shelf to be taken apart, repaired and individual components replaced.
The same system can be repeated, but the outcome can never be identical. Each shelf becomes a record of the people whose decisions shaped it.
Modular shelving system made from hand-built glazed ceramic, reclaimed flamed beech, vegetable-tanned leather and a concealed structural core. Assembled without adhesives so individual components can be removed or replaced.Write your text here...
